Growth from the Palm Frond Stems

The palm tree keeps growing new batchs of palm fronds (the palm tree's leaves) and shoots upwards in the process.

As the old fronds die off they either fall off or are pruned back by the landscapers. The old frond stems form an interesting "basket weave" pattern that intriqued Flat Stanley .

One of the pairs of frond stems on this tree had broken off. Flat Stanley wanted to take a cool souvenir home to show everyone.

The stems have lichten on them that grows on the shady side of the tree.
